RumbleBug

Building healthy play habits at a young age is critical to childhood development and can have a lifelong impact. In an increasingly digital world, children are easily drawn to screens at an early age, missing out on real-world play experiences that contribute to their cognitive, emotional and social development.

The RumbleBug is a creature that loves to play and explore! Curled up into a ball and equipped with a suite of sensors, the RumbleBug provides countless interactive play modes. By challenging children to explore colors and motions, it engages their imagination and encourages open-ended play. Bring your RumbleBug outdoors, indoors and everywhere, and discover the world together. With its adorable soft belly and cute sounds, RumbleBug will become your child’s best friend!

Prototyping

Picture
Before becoming RumbleBug. We brainstormed at least 50 concepts, then we narrowed down to 3 to prototype and tested with kids. We then synthesized what makes each concept engaging... and the RumbleBug was born!
With the RumbleBug concept, we built three prototypes of increasing levels of fidelity. For this project, in terms of prototyping, I was responsible for designing and building the circuit, as well as coding the RumbleBug and bringing it to life.
The RumbleBug was developed during a semester-project at IDM.
Team Members: Alex Crease, Eunhae Lee, Jerome Arul, Natha (Bam) Singhasaneh,

We have filed a provisional patent for the RumbleBug, and we are looking to pitch to toy companies soon!
